Relining is normally sold on neatness. No mess, the garden untouched, done in a day. On most soils that is a preference rather than an argument.
On sand it becomes structural. Clay holds a near vertical face, which is why a trench in most of Sydney looks like a trench. Sand has almost no cohesion at all, so the walls run in the moment they are cut.
That means battering the sides back or shoring them, and an excavation several times wider than the repair needed. Reaching one failed joint can cost you a driveway, a good part of a garden, and days of open ground on a block that is already settling.
Relining goes in through the existing access points. Nothing is opened, nothing is destabilised, and the joints that were letting the ground in are sealed along the entire run.

Yes, and that is usually the reason it is worth doing here rather than clearing again. The sand is arriving through open joints. A liner seals the run end to end, so there is no longer an opening for the ground to come through. Clearing removes what has already accumulated and changes nothing about the supply. Lining cuts the supply off. That is the difference between a repair and a subscription.
